It should be no surprise to learn that if you are a lover of flowers, particularly the rose, you have the option of purchasing them in gold karat. If you’re looking for a 14K gold rose versus one made of 24 karats, you’re out of luck. The 14K gold rose doesn’t exist in the world of rose gold plating.
Gold roses are only made with 24k gold as the gold has to be pure (24k gold is a soft and pure metal) in order to plate it on each rose. As it turns out, a 14K gold rose is just not as pure as it needs to be. In addition, there are other metals in it so as to make it hard. All in all, in order for gold plated roses to come out looking like they do, they go through a rigorous 40 step process, but once complete, you’re left with a magnificent one-of a kind rose to cherish forever.
When it comes to giving flowers on special occasions, the rose is usually the flower of choice. Their popularity as gifts for anniversaries, birthday, weddings, and mother’s day, can’t even compare to other flower species. The next time one of these occasions pop up, take a look at purchasing a 24K gold rose instead of the real thing; prices, after all, are competitive and a 24K gold rose will last a lifetime. In addition, unlike the real thing, a 24K gold rose doesn’t come with any prickly thorns on its stem – that’s a win, win all around.
According to fossil evidence, the rose plant has been around for 35 million years. And, throughout history, roses have been used in everything from medicine to cosmetics. Roses are described in ancient literature as “feeding the body, the soul, and the spirit.” Rose oil in Persia, was made from damask roses because of their strong scent; it was traded around the world and was highly sought after. Rose scented olive oils were used in perfumes found in Greece so as to keep away illness and bless the dead. In the 13th century, the very first apothecary rose, called the R. Gallica officinalis, was found, and was part of an industry found in the city of Provins, France. This particular rose was used in a wide variety of powders, jellies, and oils and was believed to cure an array of illnesses.
In the world of art, the rose flower has also been extremely significant. Through many centuries, this beautiful flower has gone on to inspire many an artist. As far back as 2000 BC, roses have appeared in paintings. In the design of carpets and paintings in Persia, roses have always played an important role. In the 16th century, Dutch painters featured roses in their oil paintings, thus making them extremely popular. The most famous rose painter of all time was Pierre-Joseph Redoute; the French Empress Josephine, commissioned him to paint more than 170 of her roses found in her extensive gardens. In many a framed print today, reproductions of Redoute’s botanical art can still be found.
With its long history and popularity, it’s no surprise that the rose has gone on to be immortalized in a precious metal like 24K gold. Not only do we want roses in our gardens and on our walls, but we want to be able to treasure them in a way that replicates the succulent bouquets made up in flower shops. A 24K gold rose is undoubtedly a wonderful homage to these dazzling flora.
