How can I thin out white face paint?

I am Sweeney Todd for Halloween and have purchased some white face paint to make my face whiter. Ive also bought some sponge applicators to put it on. Thing is, Sweeney is pale faced but isnt exactly painted white. How can I thin out the white face paint to still make me paler, but not look thick or fake? The bottle says “cosmetic grade”, says to put on moisturizer beforehand, and wash off with warm water. Thanks for your help.

immediately after putting the moisturizer on, smooth the white face paint on. Because the moisturizer hasn’t been absorbed into your skin yet, it will make the face paint go further and so won’t be as thick and white. You could also try using your fingers instead of sponges.
